Linscott's Local Hardwoods
LLH was started in 2010 with the purchase of a portable sawmill, but it was a thought long before that. I remember while sitting through a lecture at UW-Stevens Point (probably a statistics course or something) that hundreds of thousands of trees went to rot in landfills every year. And growing up with a background in construction and woodworking, I found that ridiculous. So, after graduating with a degree in wildlife ecology, building a house in Hawaii, and working on fishing boats in Alaska, it was time to buy the mill.
Today, LLH focuses on salvaging logs in and around Milwaukee, processing and drying lumber, and turning it into a finished work of art. Each log and board inspires a table, a bar top, a bench, or a chair. We are connected with many local arborists to help people become aware of the possibilties that remain in that tree that needs to come down. I can't tell you how many homeowners I have talked to that say they wish they would have known that they could have made a table out of their beloved tree, but instead it got hauled off for firewood.
